The Interview: Howard University President bullish that HBCU fundraising trends will continue

Philanthropists have come out of the woodwork with large gifts to HBCUs following the police murder of George Floyd in 2020, including Mackenzie Scott’s blockbuster $560 million gift to 23 HBCUs. Driver extracted, hospitalized after 3-vehicle crash on South Side highway

A driver had to be extracted from their vehicle and taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle crash on the South Side on Monday morning.

The crash happened just before 5:15 a.m. on New Laredo Highway and Pitluk Avenue, just south of Southwest Military Drive.

Police said a Dodge Ram truck was traveling southbound on New Laredo Highway when it sideswiped a Subaru hatchback that was heading north.

The truck went into the northbound lane and crashed — almost head-on — into a big rig, which didn’t have a trailer.

The driver of the Dodge was pinned inside the truck and extracted by SAFD. The driver was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said the driver of the big rig had minor injuries, and the people in the Subaru were not injured.

Weather is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

Conflict started on dance floor leads to shooting outside West Side bar, police say

A conflict that apparently started on the dance floor of a West Side bar has led to the shootings of two men.

San Antonio police say both victims were grazed by bullets early Monday outside El Patio bar, located in the 1000 block of Frio City Road.

Police say the two victims had been dancing with two women inside the bar and that upset two other men, who it seems had ties to the women.

At some point later, a fight broke out in the parking lot.

Police say one of the jealous men pulled out a gun and fired at the victims shortly before 2 a.m.

One man, who is in his 30s, was grazed on his arm.

The other, who is in his 20s, was grazed on the head, then taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Police did not make any arrests.

They say the victims already were gone when officers arrived.
