SAFD: Molotov cocktail suspected cause of fire at boarded up restaurant on Northwest Side

San Antonio fire officials say they believe someone intentionally set fire to a former restaurant on the city’s Northwest Side early Friday morning.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. at what used to be Joe’s Crab Shack in the 4700 block of NW Loop 410 near Babcock Road.

Fire officials say a San Antonio police officer happened to be driving by and saw the smoke and called it in. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire inside the building.

Authorities say it appears someone threw a Molotov cocktail through a window, triggering the sprinkler system. The sprinkler system put out most of the fire.

The restaurant has been closed and boarded up, so no one was inside and other buildings nearby were not threatened by the fire.

Firefighters said this is the second time they’ve had a suspicious fire at the building within the last few months.

As of now, investigators have not made any arrests.
