Meals on Wheels San Antonio looking for volunteers to deliver kits to seniors in preparation for severe weather

With the new year right around the corner, many are thinking about positive ways to start out including giving back and volunteering.

Meals on Wheels San Antonio is one organization that is looking for volunteers as they get ready to hold one of its biggest delivery events in January to help seniors.

Next month, they need volunteers to help deliver kits to seniors in preparation for severe weather.

“The volunteers on our winter storm event, it actually will be very similar to our regular meal pickup. You won’t have to get out of your car until you are going to deliver the meal to somebody’s door,” said Ariana Barbour, director of marketing and communications for Meals on Wheels San Antonio.

The nonprofit will deliver 4,500 winter storm kits to seniors, that include nonperishable food items.

“We will be also distributing water and whatever other necessities we can to get people through the season. So even hand warmers, blankets,” Barbour said.

For about a year and a half, Alex Solis has been volunteering at Meals on Wheels San Antonio delivering to about 30 seniors.

“It’s just fulfilling, you know, because I always think about my parents, right? And so, I always want somebody to be able to help them when they need that. And so I like doing the same thing,” Solis said.

The 10 best movies of 2021 made the most of a changing film landscape

Even more than in 2020, the act of watching a movie changed immensely in 2021. While a lot films returned to actual theaters, streaming at home has become the preferred method for many viewers, especially when it comes to non- blockbuster type movies. While I will continue to argue that watching movies on a big screen is crucial in experiencing the impact of the best the year had to offer, the following 10 films can…

From the destruction of the Death Star to the end of Thanos, here’s how to sync a New Year’s countdown with iconic movie moments

For those that are interested in ringing in the new year in a different way, moviegoers can sync their New Year’s countdown to a film with the help of a particular website.

According to findthemetaverse.com, a website for all things pop culture, those choosing to watch a movie instead of watching a ball drop or other New Year’s countdown can match a film just as the clock strikes midnight, for a more dramatic effect.

The website says those interested can start “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” at exactly 10:02:43 p.m. for what could be described as “the ultimate New Year’s Eve fireworks display.”

If timed exactly right, Luke Skywalker, according to the website, will make the “one-in-a-million shot,” destroying the Death Star exactly as you ring in the new year. The website said the timecode is from Disney+.

Film buffs that instead choose to watch a “snap heard ‘round the world” can watch one of Marvel’s iconic finger snaps from either “Avengers: Infinity War” or “Avengers: Endgame.”

You can time “Avengers: Infinity War” starting at 9:48:52 p.m. to see Thanos snap half of the population out of existence or watch “Avengers: Endgame” at 9:29:30 p.m. to see Tony Stark “put an end to Thanos once and for all.”

The timecodes are again from Disney+.

To see other timecodes from iconic films like “Back to The Future”, “Diehard”, “Alien” and “The Lord of the Rings”, you can go to the website by clicking here.
