‘I demand answers’: Mother seeks justice after son’s remains found on private property

A San Antonio mother is still waiting to learn how her son died after his remains were found on private property on Dec. 4.

Sara Trujillo is the mother of Anthony Luna, 18. Her son was in his last year of high school at the CAST STEM High School, where he studied engineering.

Luna had dreams of joining the U.S. Marines.

“He was a jokester for sure,” Trujillo said about her son. “He had such a great character. You just never knew what was going to come out of his mouth. Whether it was something big or small, he was just good.”

Trujillo said she misses her son’s goofiness.

“He would give me that big ol’ smile. I would tell him, ‘I need your tallness,’ and he would reach up and get a big pot for me and would say, ‘I got you, mom.’ He hated his smile, and I would make him smile bigger if he didn’t do it right,” Trujillo said. “I would tell him he had a great smile. He would come in the room like, ‘Surprise!’ or he would jump out and scare me. He was a good kid.”

Aug. 27 was the last time Trujillo saw her son.

“It was like the normal morning routine. It was nothing out of the ordinary. He was tired from being up from playing his game,” she said. “I just figured he was good. I told him that I was not going to let him start this year off bad. He goes, ‘Ok, mom, I’m sorry.’”

Trujillo said she drove Luna to school like normal and saw him walk into the building.

“I said, ‘Have a great day, son. I love you, and I will see you after school,’ and that was the last moment I had with him,” Trujillo said. Later, I got a couple of phone calls from his cell and then from the school, and I thought it was him wanting to come home. I was aware that he was trying to come home from school because he said he didn’t feel good, but I knew it was him just being tired. I thought, ‘He’s fine. He can stay for three more hours.’”

That very thought devastates Trujillo.

“That kills me now,” she said as she wept. “I should have picked him up, and it is eating me alive. I should have been there. I was just being that mom, telling him to go to school. I told him this is your last year. Enjoy it. I regret it every day now.”

Trujillo said, on multiple occasions, she tried filing a missing person report with the San Antonio Police Department.

“I tried three times with SAPD, and they refused to do it because he was 18. I told them this is not his character. He would call me if he was going to be three minutes late,” Trujillo said. “‘This is not him. Something is wrong.’ I tried and tried, and each officer I talked to said he ran away. I said, ‘No, not this kid.’ He had no reason to run away. He was a homebody. He loved being in his room, in his game chair, watching Netflix or listening to his music.”

KSAT contacted San Antonio police for clarification, and they stated they looked into Luna’s disappearance.

A spokeswoman with the department said that, during that investigation, police learned his father made contact with Luna very briefly before Luna hung up. They said they later learned Luna was last seen outside of their jurisdiction, so the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office took over the case officially on Sept. 11.

On Dec. 4, a rancher found human remains on his property that belonged to Luna.

“It is a blur,” Trujillo said. “I cried myself to sleep that day. My family came. I was buried in a pillow, yelling my heart out, like, ‘No, not my baby!’”

Trujillo said she is not stopping until she gets justice for her son.

“I need help,” she said. “I need closure for him. I need answers. I want answers. I am demanding answers.”

Trujillo is raising funds for funeral expenses for Luna. His services have been pushed back to January, pending the medical examiner’s investigation.

Trujillo said she hopes to give him a funeral a Marine deserves.

“He wanted to be a Marine,” she said. “I want to lay him as a soldier. I want to get all the colors for him and everything.”

On Friday at 6 p.m., family and friends will gather at CAST STEM High School for a vigil in Luna’s honor.

Gift ideas for the cook or coffee drinker

If you haven’t wrapped up your holiday shopping, it’s time to get cooking. So, how about something thoughtful, practical and in stock – at least as of mid-day Thursday.

“After spending a year and a half-plus indoors, so many people have become reacquainted with their kitchen,” said Tanya Christian, Consumer Reports’ appliances and home editor.

She shared a few of their top-rated products for the home cook.

First up, air fryers. They’re still hot.

“That’s because they turn out perfectly crispy food in a matter of minutes and put a meal on the table quickly,” Christian said.

She recommends the Gourmia six-quart digital air fryer. It’s $54 at Walmart.com.

For the coffee connoisseur, there’s the Ninja 10-cup specialty coffee maker. It even has a fancy frother. It’s $140 at BestBuy.com and available to be shipped to the store for pick up.

The Lodge cast iron 12-inch skillet browns, sears, and bakes. It’s about $30 on Amazon.com and Wayfair.com.

Shipping times indicate arrival before Santa.

A good chef’s knife is a cook’s bestie. Consumer Reports’ testers like the J.A. Henckels Premio 8-inch chef’s knife.

“It has really great contour and makes chopping and getting meal prep work done very easy,” Christian said.

That knife is sold at many retailers for about $40. Target.com indicates fast shipping and arrival in time to put under the tree.

FINALLY! 🙌 Our next cold front arrives this weekend

If you’ve been itchin’ to wear your favorite ugly Christmas sweater lately, you’ve probably opted for short sleeves instead! December has been a very warm month for us so far. 🎅☀️

Thankfully, it will turn much cooler this weekend behind our next cold front. However, there will also be a few opportunities for rain over the weekend. It’ll be quite windy at times, too.

Here’s what you need to know:

FRIDAY

There won’t be much change to the weather Friday. Expect more morning clouds and patchy fog. Some clearing into the afternoon will likely boost highs back into the low 80s, with San Antonio possibly tying or breaking the record high for the day.

SATURDAY (Cold Front Day!)

A cold front will arrive in San Antonio around mid-morning. There will be a line of showers and thunderstorms along the front. No severe weather is expected, but there could be some pockets of heavy rain. As the front moves south during the afternoon, any rain will shift south with it. 🌧️Temperatures will start off near 70 degrees early in the morning but will drop into the low to mid-50s by the afternoon! It will become very windy behind the cold front, as north winds gust as high as 45 mph during the afternoon and evening. 🌬️🍂

SUNDAY

The day will begin with temperatures in the low 40s. We’ll only warm into the low 50s.There may be a little sun during the first part of the day Sunday, but clouds will quickly fill back in as an upper-level disturbance approaches from the west. ☁️That disturbance will push some scattered showers through, beginning Sunday afternoon and continuing through Sunday night. Any rain will be light.

MONDAY

Some lingering showers will be possible Monday morning. However, rain will end and skies will clear from west to east throughout the day. By the afternoon, expect the sun to come out in San Antonio. ⛅Monday will be another all-around chilly day. Even as the sun comes out in the afternoon, highs will only be in the mid- to upper 50s.

7-DAY FORECAST

San Antonio man charged in fatal beatings of 11-year-old girl, woman in 2018 found unfit to stand trial

A 53-year-old man pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the 379th District Court on Thursday and waived his right to a trial.

Casey Farell Marshall is facing capital murder charges for the March 17, 2018 deaths of Andrea Gonzalez, 48, and 11-year-old Azriah Gonzalez after authorities said both were found beaten to death with a “hand tool”.

Marshall called emergency medical services to a home in the 9100 block of Beaudine Avenue around 5 a.m. following the killing, officials said.

In a hearing on Thursday, Judge Ron Rangel found Marshall insane at the time of the crime after looking over two psychological evaluation tests and certifications that were done on the defendant.

Marshall will officially be sentenced on Jan. 18, 2022, after a post-evaluation is done.

UTSA record-breaking RB Sincere McCormick to skip bowl game and declare for NFL Draft, reports say

UTSA’s record-breaking running back Sincere McCormick plans to declare for the NFL draft and will not play in Tuesday’s upcoming Roadrunners bowl game, according to 247sports. The publication cited unnamed sources.

Earlier this week, McCormick became the first AP All-American player in UTSA football history when he was named to the Associated Press All-American third team. He was also named a second-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America for the second straight year.

And the accolades don’t end there.

McCormick was selected as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year and was first-team all-conference for the second consecutive year. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football named him Best Running Back and All-Texas College First Team.

McCormick set UTSA records for rushing and carries this season with 1,479 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 298 carries. He also caught 22 passes for 184 yards.

McCormick was a highly rated recruit out of Judson High School, but chose to stay home and help build UTSA’s program. In his three seasons with the Roadrunners, McCormick became the university’s career leader in rushing yards (3,929), touchdowns (34) and all-purpose yards (4,438). He holds 20 UTSA football records.

McCormick is reportedly set to leave UTSA with two years of eligibility remaining. The Roadrunners ended their season ranked No. 24 in the AP poll, winning the conference title with a 12-1 record. UTSA will play San Diego State in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl. Kickoff is set for 6:30 pm on ESPN.

Spider-Man: No Way Home brings emotion and multiverse into MCU

The evolution of Spider-Man as a movie character has been one of the more interesting things to watch in the superhero era. Starting in 2002 with Tobey Maguire, who made three films, and followed by two films with Andrew Garfield and now three films with Tom Holland (not to mention a highly popular animated film), the character has endured because of Peter Parker’s innate relatability as a high school kid with newfound powers.
