The Classic Theatre of San Antonio presents ‘A Doll’s House Pt. 2′

The Classic Theatre of San Antonio is now producing “A Doll’s House Part 2″ at the San Antonio Botanical Garden.

Although the play is a continuation of the story that happened in “A Doll’s House,” director Omar Leos assures audiences that they don’t have to be familiar with the events of the first play to enjoy this production.

“The story stands on its own. You’ll know what happens in the first part just by the storytelling,” Leos said.

Executive & Artistic Director Jimmy Moore explained why this particular show was chosen.

“This show was put together and brought to us for Women’s History Month. The show is very relevant, it’s entertaining and transformative.” Moore said.

To accommodate all audience members, the theater is allowing patrons to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, or utilize the built-in stone seating at the theater in the Botanical Garden.

Robbery suspect captured by deputies after homeowner slashes tire of getaway vehicle, BCSO says

A robbery suspect was caught by Bexar County sheriff’s deputies after a homeowner slashed a tire on his getaway vehicle with a machete, stopping him in his tracks, according to authorities.

The incident happened around 1:52 a.m. Saturday in the 23000 block of Dragon Rock Drive, in Sandy Oaks.

Deputies were initially called to the area for a robbery. Upon arrival, they found Eduardo Lee Saucedo, 50, rummaging through belongings in a bedroom inside of a home.

Saucedo immediately ran away from deputies and went outside of the home with a bag of stolen property in hand.

The homeowners confronted Saucedo outside and authorities said he then went to his vehicle and retrieved a knife before making threats.

Before Saucedo was able to escape, the homeowner slashed one of his tires with a machete. When Saucedo got back into his vehicle and drove away, the tire became flattened down the road.

Deputies were able to take Saucedo into custody without incident. He’s charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.

Saucedo’s bond is set at $75,000.

Businesses welcome crowds to downtown San Antonio for St. Patrick’s Day weekend

There was a sea of people in downtown San Antonio and on the River Walk for St. Patrick’s Day weekend festivities Saturday. It’s a sight that hasn’t been seen in two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The large crowds were a welcomed sight for area business owners, as COVID-19 cases remain low and spring break and holiday celebrations are in full swing.

“I don’t want to say doubled but I’m hoping to completely blow the last couple of years out of the water,” said Mary Sams, a manager at Maddy McMurphy’s Irish Sports Bar.

Sams said in 2020, many businesses in the area shut down right on or near St. Patrick’s Day due to the pandemic. However in 2021, business was back but lacked luster.

President of the City Sightseeing San Antonio Tours David Strainge shared a similar story, in agreement that business is back and better than before.

“It is buzzy again. Last March it was fine, it was okay. It was kind of normal but this last 10 days, 12 days, buzzy is the word. The atmosphere is great,” Strainge said.

On top of business booming in the area, people are just happy to be out and having a good time.

San Antonio’s tourist hotspot, the River Walk, had a good mixture of locals and visitors. One man said he wasn’t letting gas prices stop him from taking a road trip from Oklahoma City to San Antonio.

“I got the Versace’s on, I got my Hawaiian on. I’m on vacation — I’m ready to go,” said Ryan Hardy.

Locals were out taking in the scenery and the atmosphere, all while enjoying food and drinks.

“It’s a beautiful day. It’s a beautiful weekend, so we love it. You know it’s the first time we’ve been out in probably two, two and a half years in this kind of setting,” said Jon and Christina Law.

7-DAY FORECAST

San Antonio-New Braunfels metro area weighs in as one of the most obese U.S. cities, study says

The San Antonio-New Braunfels metro area is tipping the scales as one of the most obese cities in the nation, according to a recent study from the personal finance website WalletHub.

Americans are considered some of the most overweight people in the world, with over 40% of U.S. adults obese. This shouldn’t be too surprising though, considering how easily accessible fast food is and how unhealthy groceries tend to cost less than healthier items, WalletHub says.

The SA-New Braunfels metro area ranked 25 out of 100 of the most populated U.S. cities. The study based its findings on three key factors: obesity & overweight population, health consequences and food & fitness.

Source: WalletHub

“Our data set ranges from the share of physically inactive adults to projected obesity rates by 2030 to healthy-food access,” WalletHub said in a news release.

The SA-New Braunfels area isn’t the only Texas city to earn a ranking. In fact, the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas metro area earned the top ranking as the most obese U.S. city and has the highest percentage of obese and physically inactive adults to date.

Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, El Paso, Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land and Austin-Round Rock-Georgetown metro areas also made the list.

Experts tell WalletHub the best way to fight obesity requires a multi-level approach. They urge people to consider adding more healthy foods into their diet, incorporating more exercise into their daily routines and have tips for extra safety measures obese people can take to protect themselves from a worse outcome from COVID-19.

Crypto Series event in San Antonio aimed at educating about cryptocurrency, NFTs

The Tower of the America’s hosted Crypto Series 2022 on Friday and organizers are hoping to make it an annual event.

The event was aimed at educating the community about the shift to digital currency and to make the digital world less intimidating.

“Right now it’s the wild Wild West out there and that’s why we say it’s important to look for the signs of what’s good and what’s not,” said Reginald Braziel CEO of Highrise Elite Marketing.

Braziel said before people should ask which cryptocurrency or NFTs (non-fungible tokens) are best to invest in, you should first know what they are.

In short, cryptocurrency is essentially digital value or money while NFTs are like one-of-a-kind trading cards.

Fungible means something can be replaced by another identical item.

So, you can trade Bitcoin for Bitcoin because they are the same. But, if you trade NFTs, which are not fungible, you’ll have something completely different than before because each is unique.

Cryptocurrency and NFTs are valued by how sought-after they are, so the price varies almost like stocks.

The crypto series event aimed at simplifying this very complex topic.

“Basically, like teach you from every different angle. It’s never one person who can help you understand what crypto is. You should always listen to multiple people because you can get a better perspective,” said Braziel.

Unfortunately, with new opportunities comes new scams and people should be aware before navigating the digital world. The crypto series had a handful of speakers giving insight, trying to break down what to know, what to look out for, and what to be wary of.

“The best way to not allow something to consume you is to stay ahead of it and that’s what we’re planning on doing at this event,” said Adrian Vega, who is vice president of marketing at Highrise Elite.

If you weren’t able to attend the event but want to see what was discussed, you can visit satxcrypto.io.
